MonaLisa Touch for Vaginal Dryness
Changing Women’s Lives One MonaLisa Touch™ Procedure at a Time!
After only 6 months the MonaLisa Touch is changing the lives of countless patients at Arizona Women’s Care. Sex doesn’t have to be painful in menopause and the doctors of Arizona Women’s Care have a safe, and effective, hormone-free solution that their female patients and their husbands are raving about.
The MonaLisa Touch is a medical laser procedure proven to relieve the symptoms of vaginal atrophy which include vaginal dryness, burning and painful intercourse without hormones or surgery. Arizona Women’s Care has been thrilled to be the first board-certified practice in the state of Arizona to offer this cutting-edge technology to assist menopausal women and breast/ovarian cancer survivors in effectively treating these debilitating symptoms.
Vulvo-Vaginal Atrophy (VVA) is the thinning, drying and inflammation of the vaginal walls due to a decrease in the body’s level of estrogen. Vaginal atrophy occurs most often after menopause, but can also develop during breast-feeding or at other times when the body’s estrogen production declines. A drop in estrogen levels can also happen during the years leading up to menopause (perimenopause), after surgical removal of both ovaries (surgical menopause), as a result of chemotherapy for cancer and/or as a side effect of breast cancer hormonal treatment. For many women, vaginal atrophy can make intercourse painful. Vaginal Atrophy symptoms include: vaginal dryness, burning, discharge, and genital itching, burning and urgency with urination, increased amounts of urinary tract infections, urinary incontinence, light bleeding after intercourse, discomfort or painful intercourse, decreased vaginal lubrication during sexual activity and/or shortening and tightening of the vaginal canal. Naturally, if intercourse hurts, your sex drive and interest in sex will decrease.
MonaLisa Touch treats vaginal atrophy by promoting the recovery of the genital mucosa balance in a safe, virtually pain free way, through methods similar to those used to slow down facial skin aging. The MonaLisa Touch laser stimulates the production of collagen in vaginal mucosa tissue, which improves functionality of the treated area and restores proper blood flow. The laser is inserted into the vaginal canal, and it targets surface tissue and deep tissue to promote vaginal mucosal revitalization. Fractioned beams of light penetrate small areas of tissue creating small wounds in the epithelial layer of the vaginal mucosa promoting vascular activity. The initial treatment course consists of three laser applications each spaced 6 weeks apart, once completed, a yearly follow-up treatment is recommended to maintain vaginal tissue health. Many women experience significant improvement after the first and second treatments however, three treatments are required for optimal results.
